THE SECRET TO ANSWERED PRAYER: ABIDING IN CHRIST AND HIS WORD

Have you ever felt like your prayers hit the ceiling? Like you've prayed and prayed, yet the answers seem elusive, and the breakthroughs remain just out of reach? It's a common frustration for many believers, leading to discouragement and sometimes even doubt. But what if the key to unlocking consistent answers to prayer and sustaining God's blessings isn't just what we pray, but where we pray from?

The Bible reveals a profound truth: every one of our prayers is at stake and may remain unanswered unless we truly abide in Him and make His words abide in us. This isn't a legalistic formula, but a deep, life-giving connection that transforms our prayer life and our entire walk with God.

The Abiding Place: John 15:7 Unveiled.

The cornerstone of this truth is found in the words of Jesus Himself:

John 15:7 (KJV):

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

Let's unpack this powerful promise, because it holds the secret to a vibrant, effective prayer life.

What Does It Mean to "Abide in Me"?

To "abide in me" means to remain, to dwell, to live in close, continuous fellowship with Jesus. It's not a fleeting visit but a permanent residence. Think of a branch connected to a vine. The branch doesn't just touch the vine occasionally; it draws its very life, its nourishment, its identity from the vine.

John 15:4-5 (NLT):

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

Abiding in Christ means:

• Surrender: Giving Him control over every area of your life.

• Dependence: Recognizing that you can do nothing of eternal value apart from Him.

• Fellowship: Cultivating a continuous, intimate relationship through prayer, worship, and obedience.

• Obedience: Choosing to follow His commands out of love, not obligation.

What Does It Mean for "My Words Abide in You"?

This is the reciprocal part of the promise. It's not enough to just be in Christ; His words must be in us. This means more than just reading the Bible; it means internalizing, meditating on, and living by His teachings.

Psalm 119:11 (NLT):

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

When His words abide in us, they become:

• Our Guide: Directing our thoughts, decisions, and actions.

• Our Foundation: Shaping our beliefs and worldview.

• Our Authority: Empowering us to pray according to His will.

• Our Transformation: Changing us from the inside out, making our desires align with His.

Colossians 3:16 (NLT):

Let the message of Christ in all its richness fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.”

The Power of Abiding Prayer.

The prayer that must be answered and testimonies sustained is prayer being prayed from this abiding place—a place where God's words dwell in man, and man dwells in God. When we pray from this position, our requests are no longer based on our fleeting desires or limited understanding, but on God's perfect will and promises.

1 John 5:14-15 (NLT):

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”

This confidence comes from knowing that our prayers are aligned with His heart because His words are living within us. When we abide, the Holy Spirit guides our prayers, ensuring they are according to God's will.

Conversely, prayers offered outside of this abiding relationship can often be driven by self-will or wrong motives, which the Bible tells us will not be answered:

James 4:3 (NLT):

And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.”

Sustained Testimonies: Beyond the Initial Answer.

It's not just about getting an answer to a single prayer; it's about living a life where God's goodness and power are continually manifested. Abiding in Christ ensures that our testimonies are not just isolated events but a sustained pattern of God's faithfulness. When we remain connected to the Vine, we continue to bear fruit, and that fruit is a living testimony to His grace.

Romans 8:28 (NLT):

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

This promise is for those who love God and are living in alignment with His purpose—those who are abiding.

A Call to Deepen Your Abiding.

I think we have prayed enough without answers. Let's shift our focus from merely asking to genuinely remaining in Him and allowing His words to take root in us. If this is done genuinely, I believe by the assurance of His words that our prayers will start getting answers, and our testimonies will be sustained. The Lord bless you!

However, it takes those who have come to Christ to truly abide in Him. Are you still far away? Are you trying to pray powerful prayers without the foundational relationship with the One who answers them? Your prayers may not be powerful enough to produce the needed results because the source of power—Jesus—is not yet fully enthroned in your heart.

Come to Him Today.

If you haven't yet made Jesus the Lord of your life, the journey of abiding begins now. Don't let another day pass without establishing this vital connection. Please come to Him as you pray this simple, heartfelt prayer:

Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me my sins. I surrender to You today, never to follow the will of the devil anymore. Help me to stay in You from now on, till the day of Your return. Thank You for receiving me into Your eternal safety. Amen and Amen!”

If you prayed that prayer, God heard you. Now, get close to your Bible and be serious in your relationship with God to stay ever safe. Read His Word, talk to Him daily, and seek fellowship with other believers. This is how you begin to abide, and this is where your journey of answered prayers truly begins.

Be blessed and remain ever safe in Him! 🙏
